A Man Of Many Disguises
The 1999 Mets were the first to make the playoffs in more than a decade, yet somehow the most memorable moment from that season happened in June. In a game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Shea Stadium, manager Bobby Valentine was ejected after arguing a catcher’s interference call on Mike Piazza. Goaded by veteran players Orel Hershiser and Robin Ventura, Valentine emerged from the clubhouse wearing sunglasses and a false mustache. TV cameras soon spotted Valentine and the rouse was ended. In 2015, the independent Bridgeport Bluefish honored the Connecticut native with this hilarious bobblehead.
