A Darling Of A Collectible

At just 24 years of age, Ron Darling was one of the young stars representing the Mets at the 1985 All-Star Game in Minneapolis. Darling wasn’t on the initial roster, but was added when St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joaquin Andujar dropped out. That was good for Darling, who told the press that his father had already told all of his neighbors that he was going to make the team. “When I didn’t [make it] on the first call, he was disappointed,” Darling said of his father, “but everything worked out.”
