A Crowd – and Nation – Applauds
Date: September 21, 2001
After Mike Piazza’s dramatic go-ahead home run in the bottom of the 8th inning, Shea Stadium erupted in celebration. The deafening roar of the crowd lasted through the end of the 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Millions of Americans watching from their televisions joined the celebration with the Shea Stadium crowd. As one American reporter put it, “we were all Mets fans” on September 21, 2001.
