THE BALL THAT BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE
Date: September 18, 1963
After hosting more than seven decades of New York City baseball, the Polo Grounds held its final game on September 18, 1963. This ball was used in the outing, a 5-1 Mets loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets played their first two seasons at the historic site while Shea Stadium was constructed. In April 1964, the Mets took the field at Shea and the Polo Grounds was demolished.
