Mets Win Tom Seaver in Lottery
Date: ca. 1967-1968
Tom Seaver shook hands with William Eckert, the commissioner of MLB from 1965 to 1968. The two had been well acquainted before Seaver ever landed in New York. The Atlanta Braves originally signed him in 1966 when he was a college player at USC. But MLB rules prevented teams from signing prospects during college seasons, so Eckert voided the Braves contract. As a result, the Mets won out in a three-team lottery for Seaver and the rest is
