Seaver’s Career Change-Up
Date: November 15, 2013
In the middle of his pitching career, Tom Seaver told his family that after baseball he would “go back to California and grow grapes” to make wine. In 1998, Seaver and his wife, Nancy, did just that when they opened Seaver Vineyards on the slopes of Napa Valley’s Diamond Mountain. Although Seaver worked tirelessly in the fields of his vineyard, he always welcomed friends from his baseball career to visit. Seaver’s rise to success in winemaking, especially for his 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, landed him on the cover of Wine Spectator in 2013.
