PENNANT FOR THE FIRST-EVER NL EAST CHAMPS
Before the 1969 season, the National League split into East and West divisions. The Mets battled the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals all season for the new eastern title. On September 24, 1969, the Mets dispatched the Cardinals and headed into the postseason for the first time in franchise history.
