Johnny Murphy Cheers on Mets in Baltimore

Johnny Murphy (middle) traveled to Baltimore to root on the Mets during the 1969 World Series. Murphy had become GM before the 1968 season and his first order of business was hiring Gil Hodges as a manager. During Murphy’s first news conference as GM he told reporters his message to Hodges was “Get tough!” Hodges later said “I heard him.”
