Mets Honor First Responders in 2020

Both the Mets and New York Yankees took the field on the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks wearing New York City first responder caps, including this FDNY hat donned by Steven Matz. The Mets famously took the field in first responder caps on September 21, 2001, the first baseball game in the city after the tragedy. The tradition continued sporadically until 2007, but in 2020 Pete Alonso led the push to bring the hats back, explaining that he wanted to “recognize everybody that contributed to help save lives.”
