Henderson’s Shining Rookie Season
Date: 1977 to 1980
Steve Henderson came to the Mets from the Cincinnati Reds in 1977 as one of four players traded for Tom Seaver. Henderson made his major league debut the next day and batted .297 in 99 games that season — good enough for second place in the NL Rookie of the Year voting. The left fielder tallied 516 hits for the Mets over four seasons before being traded to the Chicago Cubs for Dave Kingman in 1981.
