Jerry Grote recorded a career-high 6 home runs in 1969. He hit 2 during an early August series sweep of the Atlanta Braves at home. Wrote New York Daily News reporter Phil Pepe after the final game: “It used to be possible to say that Jerry Grote had as many game-winning hits for the Mets this season as there were men on the moon. Then all of a sudden a couple of guys named Aldrin and Armstrong put the pressure on Grote.”
