George Foster Calls Yahtzee
They say you can’t win a division in April, but the 1986 Mets nearly proved that wrong. New York certainly put a lot of distance between themselves and the rest of the NL East with a 13-3 record in April, closing out the month with a season-best 11-game winning streak. Five of those wins came on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team that edged them out of the playoffs in 1985. The first game of that series saw the Mets rally in the 9th inning on a George Foster double and Howard Johnson home run to tie the game then Foster singled in the 10th to drive in the go-ahead run. This image is of Foster in a home game against the Cardinals that season. His nickname was “Yahtzee” for how much he loved playing the board game.
