With the Mets down 2-1 in the 2006 NLCS, the Mets needed a big game to stay in the series. Carlos Beltrán answered with a 3-for-3 evening and two home runs to lead the Mets to an emphatic 12-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on the road. “Our team … we’re not going to quit,” said Beltrán. “We’re going to try and get back.” Beltrán scored four runs in part because Carlos Delgado tied a Mets playoff record with five RBIs. “It doesn’t matter how we win,” said Delgado after the game, “as long as we win.”
