Presidential First Pitch: Richard Nixon
Date: July 14, 1970
The 1970 All-Star Game was officially underway after President Richard Nixon tossed out the ceremonial first pitch while Gil Hodges looked on, grinning. Though a particular fan of the Washington Senators, Nixon liked to think of himself as baseball’s “fan-in-chief,” as well. The fan-in-chief attended 11 games during his presidency and was given a lifetime pass to any baseball game from NL president Warren Giles.
