Pennant-Clinching Pitcher: Tom Seaver 1973
Date: Undated
With the pennant on the line, which Mets pitcher should get the start? “Tom Terrific” is always a reliable choice! In Game 5 of the 1973 NLCS, Tom Seaver pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing just 1 earned run from the power-hitting Cincinnati Reds. He earned the win in the 7-2 victory at home and the Mets claimed the NL pennant. Before the game, Reds manager Sparky Anderson said of Seaver: “That man is the best pitcher in baseball.”
