A Homer for the Ages at the Astrodome
Date: 1986 Season
In just the second All-Star Game Home Run Derby, Darryl Strawberry tied Wally Joyner of the California Angels to win the contest. The headline blast belonged to Strawberry who launched a ball off a speaker on the Astrodome’s roof 350 feet from home plate and 140 feet high. After the shot, Strawberry received a standing ovation from the fans and players. He bowed the crowd.
