Even before the first pitch at the Polo Grounds in 1962, New Yorkers and baseball fans were actively collecting photos, equipment, memorabilia and papers that documented Mets heritage. Today, these pieces of Mets history can be found in enthusiasts’ homes, as well as libraries and archives — and at Citi Field itself.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the historic 1969 season, the Mets organization launched the New York Mets Virtual Vault to grant fans unprecedented access to historic materials from that season, as well as other great moments from the team’s past. This is not a static repository, but instead a growing collection of the most important objects, photos, documents and videos in Mets history.
